Fetichism and class strugle in Slavoj Žižek

This article analyses the relationship between the concepts of fetishism and class struggle in the particular Marxism of Slavoj & Zcaron;i & zcaron;ek. & Zcaron;i & zcaron;ek understands Marxian fetishism through psychoanalysis and within the framework of Marx's understanding of religion in two senses: as ideology and as foundation. This analysis allows him to show that fetishism and religion in general, is not only "false consciousness" but also the insuperable constitutive basis of the real, which, in turn, enables him to rethink class struggle.
