Enhancing Retention in Digit Rehabilitation: Implant-Assisted Silicone Finger Prosthesis for an Amputated Thumb

This case report details the prosthetic replacement of a thumb lost due to traumatic amputation. The primary goal of this replacement was to restore the thumb's functionality, enabling the patient to resume daily activities such as writing and holding objects. A silicone prosthesis, anchored by an osseointegrated implant in the metacarpal bone, was used for this purpose. In this instance, a young female's thumb stump was functionally rehabilitated with the assistance of bone-anchored implants and room-temperaturevulcanizing silicones. At the follow-up appointment, no complications were observed, and the prosthesis remained in excellent condition, requiring no additional intervention. Utilizing bone-anchored implants to enhance retention in short stumps post-amputation proves to be one of the most effective methods to restore function and improve the daily lives of such patients.
