摘要
Improper organic waste management will emit greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Thermophilic anaerobic digestion (TAD) is a dual -benefit biotechnology for organic waste treatment to recover renewable energy and reduce CO 2 emissions. In general, TAD has a higher CH 4 yield than mesophilic anaerobic digestion. However, TAD is adversely affected by such factors as volatile fatty acid accumulation, total ammonia, C/N ratio, and increased organic load. Emerging methods such as thermophilic anaerobic digestion combined with membrane distillation, extracellular electron transfer, heat pretreatment, etc., have been recently studied, showing promising results, but they still need to be further studied and tested in full-scale applications. This work analyzes aspects of TAD strategies such as single -stage TAD, two -stage TAD, two -stage TAcoD (co -Digestion) and other emerging approaches to organic waste treatment.
