摘要
This laboratory study investigated the efficacy of utilizing waste materials, specifically sawdust ash (SDA) and lime, to improve the strength and plasticity properties of problematic laterite soil. The geotechnical parameters considered in this research encompass plasticity properties, compaction behavior, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), and California Bearing Ratio (CBR), all of which are essential indicators of soil quality and performance. The introduction of both SDA and lime was observed to have a positive impact on the workability of the soil. It was noted that the maximum dry density (MDD) of the soil decreased with the addition of SDA, while the optimum moisture content (OMC) increased. The optimal lime dosage for treating SDA-stabilized soil was determined using the Eades and Grim method. Subsequently, various levels of lime were introduced to examine its influence on SDA-treated soil. The combined incorporation of SDA and lime yielded notable improvements in the UCS and CBR of the soil. An SDA content of 8% and lime content of 4% were ascertained as the optimum concentration for stabilizing laterite soil. Microstructural analysis of the SDA-treated soil revealed the formation of cementitious compounds and the aggregation of soil particles. This research underscores the role of the synergistic effect achieved by using SDA and lime in tandem, which not only enhances soil properties but also offers potential cost and environmental benefits, as it may reduce the overall amount of lime required and minimize the environmental impact associated with excessive lime use.
