HUMOR AND MIDDLE CLASS AGAINST THE POPULAR UNITY IN CHILE. THE ORGANIC INTELLECTUAL ROLE OF THE "HUMOR SNIPERS" SEEN IN THEIR SYMBOLIC TOPICS (1970-1973).

This article analyzes the role of those named by Hern & aacute;n Millas as "Humor Snipers", a group made up of of journalists and cartoonists opposed to the Popular Unity government in Chile. It is argued that the snipers, as organic intellectuals of the middle class, used humor as a rhetorical form to appeal to the fears and prejudices present in the imaginary of the sector to shape and reinforce a strong opposition public opini & oacute;n in the middle classes. For this work, the sources in the examples considered most representative are analyzed, in relation to the organic links with the imaginary of the middle class, categorizing their rhetorical elements under symbolic topics of analysis.
