This article reproduces and studies an unpublished paper from 1792 by the playwright Luciano Francisco Comella, in which he asks the Ecclesiastical Vicar of Madrid to prohibit the representation of Leandro Fern & aacute;ndez de Morat & iacute;n's La comedia nueva . The document makes it possible to complete the data already known about this conflict. At the same time, information is provided on the valuable documentation of theatrical censorship existing in the Diocesan Historical Archive of Madrid, very little used by Spanish historians of this genre.
