摘要
Failure of heat recovery units in power plants is a serious problem that causes large economic losses. Accurate determination of the failure mechanism is critical to identify problems at an early stage and make recommendations to power plant operators to prevent equipment failures. These failures are due to tube breakage caused by various mechanisms such as acid corrosion (hydrogen attack), temperature damage, caustic corrosion, and acid phosphate corrosion. The present work aims to report a case study of four damaged tubes from a heat recovery steam generator from a unit of combined cycle power plants (HRSG). The techniques of simple and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM-HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy with elemental analysis (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) allowed to provide evidence of the presence of the acid phosphate corrosion mechanism in three of the four pipes analyzed.
