Das Calcitonin-Gene-Related-Peptide (CGRP) wurde als Schlusselsubstanz zur Aktivierung von cAMP in einer nachgeschalteten Signalkaskade identifiziert, die am Migraneanfall beteiligt ist. Unklar ist jedoch, ob die intrazellulare cAMP-Signalgebung wahrend eines Migraneanfalls beim Menschen eine CGRP-Rezeptoraktivierung erfordert. Eine danische Arbeitsgruppe wollte dies durch den Einsatz menschlicher Provokationsmodelle klaren.
