Influence of fire-fighting intervention on fire spread characteristics in ship engine room

摘要
The purpose of this paper is to investigate and evaluate the ship engine room fire spreading characteristics basis on the effect of fire-fighting interventions. The Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) was employed to simulate fire scene in engine room and the fire spreading characteristics were obtained by varying ventilation conditions and parameters of water sprinkler. The results show that the pool fire can be extinguished easier with the increasing of spray speed, which is due to the water mist with higher spray speed have larger spray area. Meanwhile, the temperature in engine room would fall down more rapidly with the increasing spray area due to the higher evaporation rate. Besides, the arrangement of ventilation conditions has obvious effect on fire spreading characteristics, which is due to the oxygen exhausted leads to the lack of combustion medium.
