The border between Us and the Other: Immigration and the Mediterranean from Twitter.

In recent years, social media has become one of the most important tools of our technological society, both for the exchange of information about society and the news of what is happening in society. Without trying to replace the traditional role of the media and its impact on the social creation of reality, a new platform has been created for the exchange and interaction between individuals without time nor geographical limits, where processes of cultural significance are created, distributed and established, modifying the way we reinvent, understand and define today's society. Through the analysis of hashtags on Twitter we have investigated what types of words are associated with some of the main semantic fields related to immigration and the Mediterranean in order to understand what kind of exchange of cultural symbols takes place on Twitter.
