Chromosome painting is a method of fluorescence in situ suppression hybridization using a chromosome-specific DNA library as a probe pool that depicts an entire chromosome or a chromosomal region. We developed a simple method with which a defined chromosome region or band is painted. It involves microdissection of a chromosome, chromosomal region or band; polymerase chain reaction(PCR)amplification of chromosomal DNAs; biotin-labeling of the PCR product; CISS hybridization; and detection of the hybridization signal with FITC-conjugated avidin.
