Research on Characteristics and Mechanism of Rockburst Occurring in High Geo-temperature and High Geo-stress Tunnel

The Sangzhuling tunnel of Sichuan-Tibet Railway is a typical high geo-temperature and high geo-stress tunnel. The characteristics and mechanism of rockburst in Sangzhuling tunnel were summarized through statistical analysis of rockburst records, field test and numerical calculation. The rockburst incidents recorded in tunneling,the failure mode of rock surrounding,the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics, the initial high geo-stress and the secondary stress of surrounding rock,the high geo-temperature and the temperature drop on the wall were analyzed. The results show that the high geo-temperature and high geo-stress tunnel mainly features instantaneous rockbursts, characterized by the shear fault-type rockburst, the strain rockburst and the fault-slip rockburst in different buried depth sections. The shape and failure of rockburst at the vault, tunnel face and side wall show different characteristics. The thickness of cooling zone of surrounding rock is close to that of fractured rock slices. The coupling effect of excavation unloading and cooling aggravates the formation of plate cracking structural plane and accelerates the occurrence of rockbursts. The research results can help to accurately predict the occurrence of rock burst of similar high geo-temperature and high geo-stress tunnels, and provide the basis for formulating effective prevention and control measures. © 2020, Department of Journal of the China Railway Society.
