MACHADO DE ASSIS AND THE SOCIETY OF SPECTACLE: DIALOGUES IN THE GREAT TIME FROM THE SHORT STORY "TEORIA DO MEDALHAO"

In this article we seek to establish approximations between two distinct cultures: the 19th and 21st century cultures, based on the analysis of Machado de Assis's short story, " Teoria do Medalhao". For this, we seek the dialogue of the machadian text with contemporary literary criticism through the reflections of Guy Debord in the work Sociedade do Espetaculo, by Paula Sibilia in The show of the self: intimacy as a spectacle and of Mikhail Bakhtin with the concept of "great time" in translation by Paulo Bezerra. Through this dialogue, we aim to expand the construction of meanings in literary reading and find the actuality of the Machado de Assis short story tale two centuries after its creation.
