Alina Bartley can recall as if it were yesterday how nervous she would be, suited up in a mask, harness, and headlamp so she could climb inside a chemical plant’s dark, nitrogen-purged vessel to inspect nuts, bolts, welds, and platings. I’m scared of heights ... and I’d often be 100 feet up in the air, said Bartley, a SWE member who conducted such inspections for four of her six years working as a chemical engineer and a project engineer at an oil company in Houston.
