Research on Thrust and Torque Characteristics of Ducted Propeller in Oblique Flow

Ducted propeller is a common structural often used as a propulsion control mechanism for the trajectory and attitude control of fishing boats, tugboats, offshore working ships and other surface vessels with large loads, as well as remote control submersible with cables, such as underwater robots. When ducted propeller is working in oblique flow, the ducted propeller's hydrodynamic performance is quite different from that in axial flow. In order to research the variation of hydrodynamic performance of the ducted propeller in oblique flow, this paper calculates the hydrodynamic performance of the KA4-70/19A ducted propeller in oblique flow, and researches the influence of the duct and the angle of oblique flow on the thrust and torque of the ducted propeller. Calculation results show that the interference of the propeller and the vibration amplitude of the blade are reduced by the duct in oblique flow, and the hydrodynamic performance of the propeller is improved. The bigger the angle of oblique flow, the greater the influence of the duct on the flow field. © 2020, Editorial Office of Ship Building of China. All right reserved.
