摘要
Like the Internet, the smart grid(SG)will change the way people live and work, and inspire "similar" changes. It is vital to scientifically implement the SG to clarify its basic ideas. These ideas have been systematically introduced in the first part of our newly published book, "Basic Ideas and Key Technologies of the Smart Grid". To summarize the core ideas of the SG, this article was based on the preface of the book. These ideas include: responding to "Beautiful China's" needs for renewable wind and solar power; mainstreaming distributed renew-able energy applications, the impact of that on the fields of power distribution and power transmission is disruptive; essential characteristics and overall vision of the SG; the cluster concept and the distributed intelligent infrastructure of the SG; the benefits, challenges, and opportunities for research and development(R& D)of the SG; the relationship between the ideas of the Internet and those of the SG, etc. © 2020, Editorial Board of Journal of Tianjin University(Science and Technology).
