A burner test facility is currently under construction at the Chair of Chair of Thermal Processing Technology at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben. This burner test facility can measure industrial burners with a thermal power output of up to 1 MW using natural gas and air or operation 1.5 MW with natural gas and oxygen. There is also the possibility of adding alternative gases by bundling bottles. Local concertation can be obtained by using measuring lances and local temperatures by suction pyrometers. There is the possibility—in cooperation with the Chair for Process Technology and Industrial Environmental Engineering—to record flow and turbulence fields as well as chemical concentrations using laser measurement methods. A digital image is created in parallel to the burner test facility. The focus here is on the optimization of burners regarding emissions, flame pattern, and efficiency, which are calculated using a simulation concept and using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or specially developed models. A central point here are the NOX postprocessors developed at the Chair of Chair of Thermal Processing Technology, which enable a quick and precise statement about the formation of nitrogen oxides. © 2020, The Author(s).
