Water jet propulsion unit is closely connected with the ship hull, and thrust composition is complex. In the light of this feature, according to the thrust transmission mode, the water jet propulsion unit, power source and shafting are integrated to form a driving system, which is suspended from the ship hull to support its gravity. Force sensors are set between the front and rear end of the drive system and the ship hull for measuring axial forces. The axial force measured at the front end of the ship hull is the thrust of the water jet propulsion unit. Flexible seal is used between water jet propulsion unit and the ship hull at the inlet and the nozzle, which prevent water from entering the ship hull and has little effect on the thrust. Water jet propulsion thrust measurement method is established through the above measures. The experimental measurement of water jet propulsion thrust is completed for the first time in China, which provides a method for thrust prediction. © 2022, Editorial Office of Ship Building of China.
