Two years after completing my undergraduate studies at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, I arrived at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) for graduate studies. I enrol led as a doctoral student in the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department, and my concentration area was electromagnetic wave propagation in near-Earth space. I was fortunate to be the first Ph.D. student of Prof. Mark Golkowski, a young professor who graduated from Stanford University and is very active in the area of space research and plasma physics. © 1988-2012 IEEE.
