EFFECT OF RADIX ASTRAGALI SEU HEDYSARI ON THE INTERFERON SYSTEM

<正> This paper describes the effect of RadixAstragali seu Hedysari(RAH)黄芪 on the inter-feron system in mice and human beings and thecomparative efficacy of human interferon(IF)and combined IF-RAH treatment in prophylaxisof the common cold.Our data indicate that RAHcan stimulate the IF induction system in miceand human beings,as well as the superinductionsystem in human diploid cell cultures.Thisherb possesses the capacity of inhibiting cellRNA metabolism and prolonging the life-span ofsome human lung diploid cell strains.Fieldstudies among 1,137 volunteers have shown thatthe efficacy of combined low-titer IF and RAHin prevention of the common cold is better thanthat of IF alone.
