CAD VERSUS PRACTICE

In the last fifteen years, computers have emerged as commonly used tools in many aspects of the architecture, engineering and construction processes. The disparity between the speed of improvement in computer hardware and software capabilities and the much more deliberate pace of evolution in the design professions has resulted in an uneven application of technology to the conduct of architectural practice. The purpose of this discussion will be the typical uses of computer technology in architectural practice today; (2) explore the motivations and problems of that usage; and (3) suggest strategies that might be employed to position the design professions for maximum future benefit from computers. © 1990.
