摘要：

This paper introduces the field of computer aided decision support and examines some of the underlying reasons for the current upsurge of interest in this subject. The major principles and key technologies are discussed, and the other papers included in this issue of the BTTJ are introduced. Future trends and developments in the field are suggested.
