摘要
In this review we have focused our attention on ambivalent sexism theory. We have started with the description of its two components, hostile (i.e., antipathy and negative attitudes toward women) and benevolent (i.e., beliefs that women are weak and should be protected by men) sexism. Then, we have tried to show how benevolent sexism perpetuates gender inequalities. In order to do this, we have presented some recent studies and some theoretical frameworks related to sexism. Directions for future research and practical implications aimed at reducing the detrimental effects of sexism are discussed.
