Fat Mass Lipid Profile And Relations To Bone Mineral Density

Various studies have examined bone mineral density and its relation to fat mass, but arrived at contradictory results, Our study were planned to evaluate the connection between bone mineral density, serum lipid profile and fat mass. Total fat mass and bone mineral density were measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry in 29 women, Serum lipid profile was also evaluated by routine biochemical methods. Total fat mass, cholesterol, trigliserid, LDL, VLDL levels were higher and HDL level were lower in patients with t score < -2.5 than in 16 patients with t score > -1.5. Furthermore, cholesterol level was negatively correlated with bone mineral density and positively correlated with fat mass and percent fat. According to our results, serum total cholesterol level was higher in patient with higher total fat mass and bone mineral density was lover in patients with hypercholesterolemia.
