The resonator impedance method for measuring the shear viscoelastic properties of liquids at low ultrasonic frequencies is subjected to a detailed experimental investigation and analysis in view of the publication of results that do not concur with existing notions regarding the properties of liquids. It is shown that when extraneous effects are taken into account or eliminated, different types of resonators give consistent results, which correspond to the concept of purely Newtonian viscosity in the case of nonpolymer liquids.
