摘要：
Research on vespid wasps (yellowjackets in U.S.A.) published in Volume 16 of the New Zealand journal of zoology and research on vespids preceding papers in this volume are critiqued. In addition to noting strength, weaknesses, and omissions in this research, suggestions are given for possible new directions.
