摘要：

This article presents the results of the investigation of the demand for the engineering personnel competencies in the iron and steel industry. The paper provides competency profiles of the research engineers involved in designing energy-efficient production technologies and predicting quality indicators of steel products. It is established that development of competencies required for implementation of innovations is only possible in case of close and coordinated cooperation between educational institutions and steelmaking enterprises.
