Didactic treatment of cultural aspects in interpretation

This paper deals with the importance of cultural and intercultural elements in the training of interpreters and translators at university. To overcome the pitfalls these elements pose for students, even those with a sound linguistic basis have to use extralinguistic skills. Thus, this paper reviews the national and European legal framework on cultural competence, before considering a teaching proposal. This teaching approach is based on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning of liaison interpreting, and promotes the acquisition of cultural and intercultural co mpetences.
