The beats of memory: the times of the Canti di Castelvecchio

In Pascoli's works, the dimension of the time is far beyond from the traditional division between real time and the time of the memory. This paper analyzes the time in the Canti di Castelvecchio and explains the three types of the time used by Pascoli: interior time, natural time and historical time. The passages from a type to another are underlined by the sounds, in particular these of the bell. In the Ritorno a San Mauro, Pascoli produces a new dimension of the time: another time, not circular, but made with the visionary and the relationship between the dead parents. However, the recovery of the memory is interrupted due to the recurrence of a childhood trauma, not solved.
