Happiness is considered a basic emotion, and one of the main goals for human lives. The intention of this study was to explore gender differences and relationships among the mediator elements of happiness (culture, personal resources, self-monitoring, emotional regulation processes) and subjective well-being regarding couple relationships, family, friendship, job, self-image, and basic needs. Under study was a non-probabilistic sample of N = 203 university students from Mexico City, who voluntarily underwent a battery of previously validated typical and maximum execution psychological tests. Findings showed the supremacy of women with respect to some emotional capabilities and emotional expressions, while what predominated in men was the exercise of emotional control strategies. Also found for women were more numerous relationships, and these were stronger among mediator elements for happiness with subjective well-being regarding their couples relationships and self-image, while for men, subjective well-being correlated mainly with the relationships they had with their friends.
