USER AWARENESS AND ACCESSIBILITY OF RHODE-ISLAND STATE DEPOSITORY PUBLICATIONS - A CASE-STUDY

A questionnaire was sent to Rhode Island state depository libraries to determine how the state's publications are located by users. The state of Rhode Island acquires and distributes publications and only suggests standards for bibliographic control. Survey results reveal a wide variety of physical and bibliographic arrangements in current practice. Informal and familiar methods of locating state publications such as using the public catalog are preferred by users. A system of bibliographic access tailored to user needs and universally adopted by the depository libraries would be a step toward a successful full-service depository system. © 1990.
