Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm by Endovascular Stent-Graft Implantation in a Patient with Severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA) is a common vascular disorder which affects up to 5% of male population over 55 years of age. During the last four decades, open graft replacement has become the standard treatment for AAA. Since the first clinical report of endovascular treatment by Parodi et al. in 1990s, this type of management has gained popularity because of its advantages, that it is minimally invasive, recovery of patients is quicker and more importantly it does not need general anesthesia, endotracheal entubation and long time intensive care unit follow up. Most of the patients are old and they usually have co-morbidity like severe COPD. These patients carry high operative and post operative mortality and morbidity risks. Thus, some of them are considered inoperable. Endoluminal treatment technique could be a good choice for this particular group of patients. In this case report, we reported the treatment of AAA with stent-graft implantation in an old male patient with severe COPD. We obtained a favorable result without any complication.
