摘要
We have studied the magnetic properties and the Gd-155 Mossbauer spectrum at 4.2 K of the compound GdAl2Ge2 (hexagonal CaCr2Si2-type structure; a = 0.4248 nm; c = 0.6714 nm). This compound orders antiferromagnetically at 19.7 K. From the quadrupole splitting of the spectrum, we derived that the electric field gradient at the nuclear site is virtually zero, and the same can be expected for the second-order crystal field parameter in the RAl(2)Ge(2) series.
