ON IMPROVING THE NATURAL-RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES - A COMMENT

Romesburg (1991) suggested that natural resources practitioners were focusing on the wrong types of research questions, and that the natural resource disciplines needed to emphasize a different type of education to a different type of student. I argue that the primary focus of applied ecologists is to develop creative natural resource management schemes from basic ecological theory and that many universities are already recruiting the right type of student, those with an unwavering interest in natural history, as well as a high intellect.
