Department of Oil and Gas Geology named after academician A. A. Trofimuk of the Kazan Federal University plays an important role in the development of oil industry in Tatarstan, Volga-Urals and West Siberian oil and gas provinces. The major merit of the department scientists is in creating strong raw material base of the Volga-Ural oil and gas province, especially in Tatarstan. Initially, the department was mainly engaged in prospecting and exploration. Nowadays, it has been improved in industrial geology, field development and enhanced oil recovery. In recent years the department conducts in-depth study of deposits with reserves difficult to recover. Modern methods for researching oil fields are widely applied. Under current conditions it is necessary to further improve studies on oil fields development in order to increase at the most oil recovery factors determined by geological structure of objects, as well as geological substantiation of field development with reserves difficult to recover and unconventional hydrocarbons. Department of oil and gas geology of the Kazan Federal University has great potential assuming experience and traditions for over 60-year period, considering new geological ideas, technical and technological capabilities of the current development stage.
