A READILY INTERPRETED INDEX OF DISPERSION, BASED ON NEAREST-NEIGHBOR ANALYSES

摘要：
In nearest-neighbor analyses, the expected average distance between nearest neighbors is given by the relation E[r] = 1(2√p), where p is observed density N/A of N organisms found on area A. It is proposed that the observed average nearest-neighbor distance r̄ be substituted for E[r] in the square of this relation, permitting solution of new values N′=A/4r̄2 and A′=4Nr̄ 2. The proposed index of dispersion is then N/N′-A′/A. -from Authors
