FIELD EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE ANTICOCCIDIAL EFFECT OF DICLAZURIL IN A LARGE-SCALE TURKEY FLOCK

To investigate the anticoccidial effect of diclazuril (Clinacox premix, Janssen Pharmaceut.), day-old turkey poults (9507 cocks and 9315 layers) hatched from eggs of a Mycoplasma free parent flock were divided into two groups. One of the groups received diclazuril (1 mg effective substance/kg of feed, i.e. 200 g Clinacox premix/ton of feed) while the other received lasalocid-Na (100 mg effective substance/kg of feed) up to the age of 84 days. The losses observed in both groups did not exceed the usual grade (5.10 to 5.85 % in case of cocks and 2.70 to 2.78% in case of layers), neither pathological changes of coccidiosis were observed. Body-mass at slaughtering of 117 and 121 days old layers, as well as 139 and 153 days old cocks did not or hardly differed each other in the groups fed with the two anticoccidial drugs (Table). After having received these favorable results, the control of coccidiosis of 453 thousand day-old turkey poults was carried out with diclazuril in the following year.
