The Opinions Of Would-Be-Teachers And Teachers Of Social Sciences About Geography Courses

This study tried to determine the opinions of teachers and would-beteachers of social sciences about geography courses. The sampling of the study was composed of 78 would-be-teachers at Dumlupinar University, Education Faculty, Primary School Education Department, the Chair of Social Science Teaching and 37 teachers of social sciences working at state schools of Ministry of Education (MEB) in the city centre of Kutahya. Data gathering was carried out through 10 questions prepared according to Likert scale of five in order to determine the opinions of teachers and would-be-teachers of social sciences about geography courses. The data were gathered in March 2007 and their analysis was done with the SPSS program. As a result, no significant difference could be found in the opinions of both teachers and would-beteachers of social sciences about geography courses according to the variance of gender. However, according to the variance of graduation of the teachers, a significant difference was found in the opinions of the teachers in some questions in favour of geography graduates.
