摘要
This paper develops a model which explains how individuals manage self-control strategies for situations in which an average level of activity per unit time is what needs controlling. The focus of the model is intertemporal trades, times when, for example, a dieter decides to eat dessert with lunch by promising himself he will forego dessert at dinner. Self-control is managed successfully by those who learn to complete such trades. The paper analyzes the process of learning about the reliability of ones strategies for intertemporal trades.
