Survey data were used to explore the relationship between career disruption and academic rewards. Descriptive statistics suggest that faculty women were more likely than men to leave academic positions and that women who interrupt careers are likely to do so for a job-seeking spouse. Moreover, women experience significant losses in ten and earnings as a result of career disruptions.
