摘要
Treatment of localized and metastatic colon cancer is one of the most established and highly standardized concepts for cancer therapy. Surgical resection with medical adjuvant and palliative therapy reach 5-year overall survival rates at about 60 %. Improving data quality in diagnostic and treatment of colon cancer are reflected by the current revision of the German S3 guideline "Colorectal Cancer" as part of the German Guideline Program in Oncology of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany, the German Cancer Society and the German Cancer Aid under the auspices of the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases. With its evidence-based and stage-specific treatment recommendations, the guideline contains consensus-based recommendations regarding preoperative diagnostic method selection and quality indicators for process of improvement.
