RAINFALL IN AND AROUND THE CITY OF NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS

Nineteen lawn and garden sprinkling rain gauges and one US standard nonrecording rain gauge were installed to monitor rainfall distribution in eight compass directions in and around the city of Nacogdoches, Texas. Based on 49 rainfalls observed between April 1987 and March 1988, rainfall was greater in both summer and winter in the southeastern, southern, and eastern areas than that recorded in the northwestern, western, and northern regions. No significant differences in rainfall were found among the southeastern, eastern, and southern stations. The distribution patterns are believed to be associated with the general airmass movements of the region. Urbanization apparently had no noticeable effects on such distribution.
