The electrical conductivity and luminescence of Cu+-doped and ion-exchanged Na-beta''-Al2O3 single crystal films and ceramics and Na-beta-Al2O3 single crystals have been measured. Electrical data of Cu+-beta''- and beta-Al2O3 exhibit fast ion transport features. The emission spectrum of Cu+-doped Na-beta''-Al2O3 single crystal films exhibit an emission peak at 515 nm which is very close to that of bulk crystals. The emission spectra for the beta''- and beta-aluminas have been analysed by fitting to Gaussian components.
