TUBING BUTT WELDS REFERENCE RADIOGRAPHS

A series of illustrations of radiographic indications of particular interest in tubing circumferential butt welds are presented. These illustrations include reproductions of each particular radiographic condition accompanied by a macrophotograph of the cross section of the weld condition depicted on the radiograph. The information was developed in response to a situation in which fossil power system owners radiograph certain field butt welds in the tubing of their units. The majority of these are closing welds between tubes in shop assembled components. Proper interpretation of these radiographs is sometimes difficult, and errors in interpretation can be costly. The information presented is intended to provide assistance with these interpretation problems.
