RING-OPENING POLYMERIZATION OF CYCLIC KETENE ACETALS AND UNSATURATED CYCLIC SPIRO ORTHO-ESTERS

摘要
Three new substituted cyclic ketene acetals and two unsaturated spiro ortho esters were synthesized. The free radical polymerization of cyclic ketene acetals gave zero or very low yields because of steric hindrance effects. However, cationic polymerization gave relatively high yields of polymers with predominant ring opening. Although the cationic polymerization of the spiro ortho esters produced mostly double ring-opened polymers, their free radical polymerization yielded non-ring-opened polymers.
