INFANTILE CORTICAL HYPEROSTOSIS - A CASE-REPORT

In a three months old female infant with soft tissue swellings and therefore suspected nephrotic syndrome an urinary tract infection was diagnosed and successfully treated with antibiotics. However, fever and the signs of inflammation persisted, Bone szintigraphy, performed to exclude osteomyelitis, showed intensive activities over the facial skull, the ribs, forearms and pelvis. Skull X-ray showed the typical bony changes of the infantile cortical hyperostosis. Infantile cortical hyperostosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unclear soft tissue swelling in infants.
