摘要：
The paper presents a comprehensive review of the literature and outlines the background and direction of some work recently carried out on full-scale plant to assist the resolution of opposing constraints; namely improving and extending treatment processes while minimizing the resulting capital and revenue requirements. 'Conventional' methods of meeting these additional process requirements have been critically re-examined.
