Objective: Identify risks factors in adolescents in the last course of Junior High School. Material and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional research in adolescents in the last course of Junior High School in "Antonio Jose de Sucre," that included 174 students. The risk factors studied were: Low birth weight background, atherogenic diet, background of being an active or passive smoker, obesity, overweightness, prehypertension and arterial hypertension. Descriptive analysis was made of the variables. The chi squared test with 95% confidence index and statistical significance for p < 0.05 was used for comparison by gender and the Pearson Correlation with significance level for r with a value of p < 0.05 was used for measurement of association. Results: The risk factors of arteriosclerosis were atherogenic diet (39.6%), active smoker (8.6%), passive smoker (24.1%), overweightness (14.9%), obesity (7.5%), arterial hypertension (2.9%) and prehypertension (10.9%). Asignificant association was found between some atherogenic genetic risk factors, the atherogenic diet, arterial hypertension and prehypertension being those which had the most association with other atherosclerotic signals in the adolescents studied.
