INFECTIONS RISK RELATED TO ANIMAL WOUND - ROLE OF THE PASTEURELLA INFECTION PROPHYLAXIS

Two studies were done at Clermont-Ferrand teaching hospital : a collection of pasteurellosis cases and a survey of animal wounds. 74 pasteurellosis cases were collected over 16 years. The survey done among a representative sample of general pratitioneer in the Puy-de-Dome and the data from the Centre de Traitement Antirabique allowed to evaluate the annual incidence of animal wound at 2,7/1000 i and the incidence of infections at 1,2/1000 i. The overall data of these two studies allows to estimate the incidence of wound pasteurellosis at 0,47/1000 and to identify infection risk factors. These results are consistent with literature pointing out the frequency and the early onset of wound pasteurellosis. It suggests some modifications in the guidelines for the treatment of animal wounds.
