RETRACTED: New findings for dentin sialophosphoprotein studies: Applications of purified odontoblast-like cells derived from stem cells (Retracted article. See vol. 62, pg. 296, 2020)

Background: The biological events in dentin-pulpf-complex cells have been actively investigated for decades, but the regulation of dentin formation under both physiological and pathological conditions is still unclear. One reason for the limited knowledge of factors that affect dentin formation is the lack of proper in vitro models. Highlight: This review summarizes in vitro experiments performed by our group and others. We present the current state of progress made in the field of stem-cell-based odontoblastic differentiation including the mechanism, and the possibility for clinical use of stem cells. Conclusion: Mouse embryonic stem cells, mouse induced pluripotent stem cells, and alpha 7(+) human skeletal muscle stem cells can differentiate into odontoblast-like cells without an epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and are characterized by the signaling cascade underpinning odontoblastic differentiation, which may be useful for tooth regeneration and dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) studies.
